enemies & ROGUES

“The enemies in the darkest places of the world reflect their environment and sometimes not even courage is enough to endure it.”

- Father Marcus Artorius in an excerpt from the ‘Malleus Damnatorum’

The Ravenwood is a dangerous place for any inexperienced traveller. Arming yourself with a blade or spell is compulsory to face some of the dark threats that lurk in the wood. Undead, trolls, demons and other nasty creatures await you. Do you dare enter the Ravenwood still? Check out our rogues gallery and some of the creatures the players have come across in the Ravenwood.

common enemy types

Undead

Undead can come in a variety of forms, but these creatures are always resurrected from the grave through vile acts of necromancy. The most common form are known as “ghouls” who shriek and attack the living ruthlessly. Among the undead can also be the shrouded “wraiths.” These are undead spirits of terrible magic power and evil that help revive their fallen undead comrades.

The most deadly type of undead you can encounter are the heavily armoured and resilient “dread knights” who command the undead forces, or “dread clerics” who conjure powerful dark magic. If you hear the hissing and rasping sounds of the undead, be prepared for a chilling fight and be sure to bring numbers.

Identifiers: Skulls & bones, shrouds

Trolls

Trolls aren’t just some mindless rabble of enemies. They’re cunning and understand battle tactics to overwhelm and overpower their foes. Their ferocity in battle is practically unmatched and they’re also the ancient enemies of the northern Rusgaard people.

Their ancient home in the tall, cold mountains of the north give them enhanced endurance in extreme weather conditions and they organize themselves into a hierarchal society of different battle packs with one troll typically occupying the role of “chieftain.” Trolls are more communication-savvy than other enemies, however they might only tell you that they want to ‘eat your bones.’ Best beware if a troll pack is around!

Identifiers: Gray or green skin, pointy ears and fangs

Demonic entities are a more rare enemy to come across as they’re summoned from another plane of existence, by either their demonic overlord or someone truly insane enough to conjure them. The most commonly observed type of demonic entities are known as “imps.”

These are the malevolent foot soldier hell-spawn that serve a greater demon. It’s best practice to ensure you’re in good numbers before facing off against these enemies as they can overwhelm and slay small groups easily. If you’re lucky enough to survive an encounter with imps, it’s wise to be careful when handling or collecting any relics from their bodies. Dark magic or curses can infest their remains even after being slain.

Identifiers: Red or black horns, demonic magic

Demonic (imps)

ACCURSED

Identifiers: Various monstrous traits, “draining” ability

Accursed enemies are some of the more disturbing entities that have emerged in the Ravenwood. What’s most perilous about them is their ability to “infect” or spread their curse to the living through a “draining” ability when someone is incapacitated. This actively pulls life essence and replaces it with a dark, unknown pathogen that begins to corrupt even the bravest and most faithful soul.

They’re not undead or demonic, but the infection they spread is terrifying enough. It’s good to have somebody in your party that can “sanctify” anyone who may be afflicted with the accursed sickness, otherwise you could risk the tragedy of your friends getting infected and eventually becoming your foes.

SEBASTIAN MARKO

Not much is known about Marko, aside from his previous reign of terror before being imprisoned by his rival – the Grey Cloak wizard Rowan Emmerand. After Navaris released Marko from his dimensional prison he has carefully planned his revenge. He defeated Rowan during Vendetta (Oct 25, 2025) in a ritual circle. Marko then severed the Auga da Seema’s ties to the Ravenwood with the sword of St. Decus that was brought to him by Father Ovidius. Marko took the auga and disappeared, which left the factions reeling. He is now in possession of two augas, powerful artefacts that enhance his terrible magic. He is the #1 current threat to all who enter the Ravenwood… and perhaps even all of Miradawn.

Class: Dark Sorcerer (Whereabouts Unknown)

BALTHAGOR, the tormentor

The powerful pit fiend Balthagor remains a whispered threat to those who have now encountered him. Being a powerful lord of Hell gives him near-immortality on the mortal plane. After being summoned by Ceric Godwinson by accident and Navaris on purpose, Balthagor has attempted a few times to ensnare mortals who cross him. He was banished by Freydis, Alexandros, Mo’rah and Snorri, but a failed attempt marked them as The Tormentor’s next targets. The Grey Cloak Wizard Rowan Emmerand used them as bait to summon Balthagor during Menace of the North (Sep 20, 2025) and lured him to the beach near Rabenthrall. The group tricked the demon into entering a banishment circle and sent him back to Hell… for now.

Class: Demon (Banished from Mortal Plane)

“The Stranger”

Not much is known about this shadowy figure or what he wants. He was last seen around Rabenthrall during Ashes & Judgment (Aug 30, 2025).

Class: Unknown (Whereabouts Unknown)

FATHER OVIDIUS

The cruel former Admaari priest was slain centuries ago and has now returned from the grave with a band of undead in tow last year searching for the Auga da Seema in Rabenthrall. The evil cleric failed to locate it, but managed to take the sword of St. Decus back to his master, revealed later to be Sebastian Marko himself. With his fellow lieutenant, Téras, Ovidius assaulted the factions last year at Morrowe Pointe during Vendetta (Oct 25, 2025) and succeeded in allowing Marko to steal the Auga da Seema. In the resulting fight, Ovidius terrified the factions, but he and Téras were eventually banished from the mortal plane in a ritual circle. However, you can’t kill what’s already dead…

TÉRAS

For many, the story of the “Scourge of the Elkwood” was just that… a story. However, the terrible horned figure emerged from the shadows last year near the settlement of Rabenthrall. Téras is a ferocious animal and his band of brigands assaulted the factions and succeeded in obtaining the Auga da Seema. However, when he tried to take it through a portal to Marko it was revealed that the auga was magically attached to the Ravenwood. It would require Marko to personally arrive and sever its bond and take it. Téras accompanied Marko and Ovidius to do this during Vendetta (Oct 25, 2025) and allowed Marko to escape. Téras rained carnage on the assembled warriors, but was ultimately banished with Ovidius in a ritual circle. The Scourge is gone… for now.

Class: Accursed (Banished from Mortal Plane)

The genial yet dangerous Voloren remains a mystery to the factions of the Ravenwood. He wears dark robes and a golden mask, similar to the fallen necromancer Navaris. However the curious enigma that is Voloren insists he hated Navaris for exposing his “organization” too much to the large nations throughout Miradawn. He has not been hostile to the factions and has even helped them fight accursed creatures before. Voloren insists he’s simply “a business man,” and many wonder just how much he’s pulling the strings. He delivered a magical dagger that could deal death just once to the Rusgaard and that was the weapon used by Freydis during Ashes & Judgment (Aug 31, 2025) on Mad Mott. The factions seem to be keeping him at an arm’s length. Perhaps for the best… or maybe not?

Class: Purveyor & Mage (Whereabouts Unknown)

VOLOREN

NAVARIS AKA HEINRICK DUVALL

The notorious necromancer, and former Golden Hand Inquisitor from Baltheria, plagued the Ravenwood for years being captured twice and escaping both times. His dark mission wasn’t revealed until it was too late and his master, Sebastian Marko, was released from his dimensional prison. Through a combined effort, the multiple factions finally put an end to his nefarious deeds. They did a ritual to imbue the Admaari relic sword of St. Decus with the power of death once per day. In the end, it was Ser Dorian Lockhart who delivered the death blow with the sword. Dorian was a former Admaari soldier and mercenary that Navaris had hired who became a Falconer knight and turned against his former employer to exact justice.

Killed during Revelations (Oct 26, 2024)

MUTHVAR FJALLSKUGGASON

Muthvar led the initial Rusgaard war party into the Ravenwood before being burned three times by the Admaari Paladin, Tertius. The encounter left him scarred and driven to madness believing himself to be the “Champion of Myrkur.” His former lieutenant, Brynjar Mountain-Helm, defeated him in the Rusgaard square of combat to take control of the war party and drove ‘Mad Mott’ into the wilderness. He returned with a mercenary force to exact revenge against his former lieutenant and even raised draugr to bring Brynjar and the Rusgaard to heel. Muthvar was repelled and the vitke of Mythvale, Freydis Randallsdottir, killed him with a magic dagger of death sold to them by Voloren.

Killed during Ashes & Judgment (Aug 31, 2025)

CERIC GODWINSON

Ceric was a wanted criminal in his native Mundera for murdering his father and younger brother. However, his one remaining brother, Ælfwig Godwinson of Relkirot, was determined to find his brother and bring him to justice. Little did Ælfwig know, Ceric had found the necromancer Navaris and began training in dark magic, aiding and abetting the notorious criminal. Ceric was the first to unintentionally unleash demons on the factions of the Ravenwood, but he was ultimately foiled in his plans and defeated in 1-on-1 combat with his brother Ælfwig. His life was spared after the fight, but he was brought back to Cereon to be tried and then executed with Ælfwig in attendance.
